The Black Rock Motor Resort: NSW’s Thrilling New Racing Destination

Nestled in New South Wales’ Hunter Valley lies the forthcoming gem, the Black Rock Motor Resort, poised to redefine leisure and adventure. Spearheaded by renowned Formula 1 track designers at Tilke Group, this visionary project boasts a thrilling 5.25-kilometre circuit, promising an adrenaline-packed experience for racing enthusiasts. Conveniently located within a stone’s throw from Sydney and a short jaunt from Newcastle, the resort offers more than just a track. Picture go-karting thrills, luxurious villas for overnight stays, and an array of dining options.

But Black Rock Motor Resort is more than just a playground for speed demons. It’s a testament to transformation, breathing new life into Teralba’s former Rhonda Colliery mine site, which lay dormant since the 1970s. Scheduled to unveil its wonders in 2026, this ambitious endeavor embodies the government’s commitment to fostering innovation and economic diversity.

“Unlike a normal racetrack where the focus is large-scale racing events, Black Rock is more like a golf resort, but rather than 18 holes, we have a 5.25-kilometre circuit as our centrepiece,” said Black Rock CEO Tony Palmer.

“The design of Black Rock is focused on evolving the site from a former coal mine into a beautifully landscaped destination, integrating the circuit and all the facilities within the existing mine footprint and utilising previously cleared land and existing fire trails.”

With plans to create 450 jobs during construction and 229 permanent positions upon completion, the resort promises not just excitement but also economic prosperity for the region.
