Omega Have Finally Introduced a White Dial Speedmaster Moonwatch

This piece has refreshed elements on the dial that make reference to historic Moonwatches....

In November, Daniel Craig was spotted wearing a white dial Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch at the Planet Omega event in New York. At the time, watch fans salivated at the idea, but where was piece? Was it actually a Canopus Gold Moonwatch? We now have an answer, it’s an unprecedented light dial Moonwatch.

Maybe unprecedented is too strong a word for this release as there have been some special, commemorative, and limited-edition pieces with white dials in the past. But never in the standard collection and definitely not on the steel models.

What’s more is this piece has refreshed elements on the dial that make reference to historic Moonwatches. For example, the red lettering on the “speedmaster” marque is a reference to the red heat shield case, a feature found on the Alaska Project pieces that were designed to withstand the elements of outer space.

Let’s stop beating around the bush and talk about the dial itself. Omega have used varnish and lacquer for the first time on a Speedmaster, providing an elevating depth to the dial. Contrasting the dial are diamond polished black PVD coated hands and markers – lumed, of course. What’s interesting is that they’ve used sapphire crystal over the dial rather than the traditional Hesalite.

Sapphire is also found on the caseback giving you a great view of the calibre 3861. This is the latest rendition of the Lemania 1861, a manual wind chronograph that now passes METAS Certification with a 0/+5 seconds a day variance.

Additionally, you’ve got three strap options – a stainless steel, five link bracelet; a perforated leather strap; and a black rubber strap (a first for the Speedmaster).

These will be available from Omega boutiques and authorised retailers at a later date for $8,100 USD on the steel bracelet and $7,800 USD on the leather or rubber strap.
