McLaren has officially unveiled its highly anticipated 720S GT3 Evo, set to compete in the 2024 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). Unsurprisingly, the latest iteration boasts a striking design that exudes both aggression and sophistication.

Adorned in McLaren’s signature black and orange livery, the 720S GT3 Evo features a distinctive front end with massive air intakes flanking stretched canards. The bulbous arches, now fitted with Good Year tires, contribute to the car’s commanding presence on the track. Notably, the vehicles will bear the iconic numbers ’59’ and ’95,’ paying homage to McLaren’s triumphant Le Mans victory in 1995 with the F1 GTR.

The exterior upgrades go beyond aesthetics, with more aggressive bumpers, splitters, and a widened rear wing with lower overhangs. The sheer size and design of the wing suggest a commitment to aerodynamic efficiency, a crucial factor in the fiercely competitive world of endurance racing.

Under the hood, details about upgrades to the M840T 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 remain undisclosed, leaving enthusiasts speculating on the power output. However, with most GT3 cars prioritizing aerodynamics for optimal performance, it is anticipated that McLaren’s enhancements alone could significantly improve lap times, possibly shaving off a valuable second or two.

Richard Dean, CEO of United Autosports, McLaren’s new partner for the upcoming campaign, expressed enthusiasm about the design’s racing heritage, drawing inspiration from the 1995 Le Mans winner while seamlessly integrating with the current McLaren family aesthetic. He confidently declared the 720S GT3 Evo as an exciting addition to McLaren’s 2024 lineup, emphasizing the brand’s ambition and winning pedigree.

As the WEC season kicks off on March 2 in Qatar, all eyes will be on McLaren’s six-driver lineup as they embark on an eight-race journey, culminating in the iconic Le Mans race—an event McLaren has not participated in since 1997.
