Ferrari Reserved After “Positive First Day of Testing”

While Max Verstappen set the pace in the afternoon session of testing, Ferrari weren’t clear if they were aiming for a top time....

The first day of testing isn’t the best time to draw conclusions about the performance of each team’s car. Still, there are some things to learn even if they aren’t related to lap time. Ferrari didn’t top the lap times but have concluded that their testing is going very well so far.

While Max Verstappen set the pace in the afternoon session of testing, Ferrari weren’t clear if they were even aiming for a top time. Rather both drivers have stated that they were simply focused on their pre-season preparations.

Carlos Sainz accrued 69 laps in testing and didn’t want to divulge his predictions surrounding the team’s pace.

“It’s been a positive first day of testing here in Bahrain with 373 km completed,” said Sainz.

“We managed to go through the whole programme without issues, gathering some useful data to better understand the SF-24 together with the engineers.

“As usual with pre-season testing, it’s too early to draw any conclusions yet, so we’ll keep maximising the upcoming two days of running to get ready for the start of the season next week.

“It felt good to be back properly behind the wheel after the winter break.”

Charles Leclerc finished 64 laps before switching out with Sainz for the afternoon but echoed his teammates comments over Ferrari’s pace.

“Our first morning of testing was quite productive, especially in terms of mileage,” Leclerc added.

“As for the performance, it’s just too early to comment or draw conclusions.

“We ran all the tests we planned to and things are going ahead as expected, which is a positive.
