The Greubel Forsey Balancier 3 – A Paradigm Shift in Haute Horlogerie

The latest addition to this innovative collection is the Greubel Forsey Balancier 3. Meticulously crafted with precision and care, this new timepiece follows the brand’s distinctive design and finishing language. ...

Greubel Forsey, a brand synonymous with pushing the boundaries of horological innovation, continues to redefine conventional watchmaking with its mesmerizing timepieces. The year 2019 witnessed a bold leap into the sports watch realm with the GMT Sport, a creation seamlessly integrating a world-time indication and an inclined tourbillon. This marked the inception of a new era, characterized not only by technical brilliance but also by a revolutionary convex case design.

In 2020, the Balancier S made its debut, presenting a simplified model that retained the brand’s distinctive aesthetics and unparalleled craftsmanship. This time-only piece set the stage for subsequent sports-oriented creations, laying the foundation for what was to come.

The year 2021 witnessed the unveiling of the Balancier S2, a testament to Greubel Forsey’s commitment to innovation in the sports watch category. This creation built upon the legacy of its predecessors, offering a seamless blend of sophistication and functionality.

The latest addition to this innovative collection is the Greubel Forsey Balancier 3. Meticulously crafted with precision and care, this new timepiece follows the brand’s distinctive design and finishing language. Positioned as a more accessible option, the Balancier 3 aims to make the brand’s exceptional craftsmanship attainable to a wider audience.

The Balancier 3 is presented in captivating black or blue variants, encased within a 50m water-resistant titanium Convexe case boasting a 41.5mm diameter. The thoughtfully designed case, with its slightly larger bezel, extends the measurement to 43.6mm. At a height of 13.55mm (13.35mm without the crystals), the case impeccably follows the wrist’s natural curvature, evident on both the dial and back sides.

The variable geometry bezel, adorned with a mix of polished and straight-grained finishes, complements the titanium crown featuring the Greubel Forsey logo. Departing from tradition, the lugs of the Balancier 3 elegantly forgo screws, enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal.

The iconic Greubel Forsey aesthetic takes center stage on the dial, continuing the theme of variable geometry on the hour ring. The engraved and lacquered minute track, along with three-dimensional Super-LumiNova-treated hour indices, creates a visually stunning timekeeping masterpiece.

The large (12.6mm) adjustable-mass balance wheel, adorned with six gold mean-time screws, is a focal point at 5 o’clock. The fast-rotating barrels, completing a revolution in 3.2 hours, boast circular-grained, black-treated decoration with relief-engraved text at 1 and 10 o’clock.

The curved sapphire caseback unveils finely finished, large bridges adorned with typical Greubel Forsey details, including jewels in chatons. Notably, the power reserve indication (72 hours) makes its caseback debut in this collection, adding an extra layer of sophistication to the Balancier 3.

Available in blue or black, the Balancier 3 comes with matching straps crafted from non-animal materials and rubber, secured by a titanium folding clasp. For those seeking an extra touch of luxury, an optional three-row titanium bracelet with a folding clasp and fine adjustment is also available.

Positioned as a “more accessible timepiece,” the Greubel Forsey Balancier 3, with a limited edition of 88 pieces per colorway, is priced at CHF 160,000.
