Roger Dubuis have taken a captivating detour into Medieval mythology with its Knights of the Round Table collection. Beyond the realm of conventional watches, this series pays homage to the legendary knights of King Arthur’s fellowship.
The 45mm case incorporates Titanium Damascus, a nod to both contemporary design and the ancient art of steel forging. This technique involves stacking Grade 2 and Grade 5 titanium plates, heating them, hammering, and shaping them into a solid block. The result is a distinctive wave pattern. The blacksmith’s touch extends to traditional brushed and polished titanium elements, adorning the crown guards and the iconic notched RD bezel.
Elevating the design, the bezel is raised from the middle case, revealing a sapphire ring that unveils the 12 knights. The crown itself is a masterpiece, crafted partially from ice-blue Murano glass, a material echoed in various parts of the watch. Paired with a structured dark blue leather strap featuring a quick-release system and a triple-folding clasp.
The dial emerges as the focal point, boasting the 12 micro-engraved knights in 18k rose gold. Dynamic and unique, each knight tells a story, creating a scene frozen in time. The dial mimics the texture of an iced-over lake, framed by transparent ice-blue glass, following the Murano method. Large blocks of ice, coated with biscuit Limoges porcelain, evoke a powdered snow effect. Time is elegantly displayed with 18k pink gold hands featuring luminous tips.
Turning the watch reveals a visual symphony – the oscillating weight in blue draws inspiration from medieval stained-glass windows. The pyramid shapes echo the triangular notches, while the skeletonized weight unveils the in-house calibre RD821, an automatic movement certified by the prestigious Poinçon de Genève.
