Hamilton have realised what every watchmaker is aware of – that black and gold is an absolutely mad colourway. It’s fashionable, it’s tasteful, it’s classic. For those who love “matte black everything” these five watches will certainly keep you happy.
The Black and Gold Capsule puts the colourway on some of Hamilton’s most popular models including the Jazzmaster Automatic 36mm, the Jazzmaster Auto Chrono 42mm, the Pan Europ, the Ventura Chrono Quartz, and finally the Ventura S.

It would be easy to just slap on some gold and black on the dial, but they’ve put in a little more effort this time around with distinct straps for each model. For the most part they fit each model well. The two Ventura models receive a black alligator-style leather; the Jazzmaster Auto Chrono has a matter black bund strap; the regular Jazzmaster has a NATO strap made from a similar material to the Auto Chrono; the Pan Europ gets two straps, a black leather one with very large holes and a pronounced centre ridge, and a gold-striped, black NATO fabric strap with a gold clasp.

In terms of technical specs, the Pan Europ and the Jazzmaster Auto use the H-30 and H-10 movements respectively, both being able to supply 80 hours of power. Both of them also have 50m water resistance. The Auto Chrono features the H-21 chronograph movement with a 60-hour power reserve and water resistance up to 100m. Both Ventura watches have quartz movements and 50m of water resistance.
If you’re familiar with these models you know what you’re in for, but this time in black. These aren’t a limited release or anything like that and they’re available from Hamilton’s website right now.
Prices ($AUD):
- Jazzmaster Auto Chrono – $2,900
- Jazzmaster Auto – $1,375
- Pan Europ – $1,850
- Ventura – $1,425
- Ventura Chrono – $1,625
