Now for any F1 fan, Michael Schumacher is in the upper echelon of drivers, so owning the Ferrari F2003-GA Chassis 229 that he took to victory in 2003 with would be a rich racing nerd’s dream. A dream that could become reality as long as they are willing to spend around $9.4 million USD. That’s the price of a piece of racing history.
This car is just one of four Schumacher-era Ferrari F1 chassis with five wins or more in a World Championship winning season, so it’s pretty good, possibly even without Schumi behind the wheel. Which the owner can test out as the car is “track-ready” according to Sotheby’s.
The chassis 229 has been awarded Ferrari Classiche’s “Red Book” Certification and was recently overhauled at the iconic Maranello factory. The 3-litre V10 has only run 148 miles since then and all the major components have only covered a small percentage of their lifecycle. All of this is documented in the “Current Car Status” data sheet provided by Ferrari.

The car is going up for auction at Sotheby’s Auction House in Geneva, Switzerland. The auction house has predicted that the car will go for up to $9.4 million (~$14.7 million AUD).
Should this car actually sell for the estimated price, it would become the second-most expensive F1 car ever sold at auction. The most expensive F1 car ever sold was the 1954 Mercedes W196R for $29,650,095 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2013.
Alongside the car are eight rare ‘Fancy Blue’ diamonds. These are worth $70 million and are highly prized due to them possessing the highest possible colour grading for blue diamonds. Only 1% of blue diamonds are awarded this ranking by the Gemological Institute of America.
The auction will start on November 9 at 4PM CET.
