Almost as if to keep the Game of Thrones spin-off hype train rolling, HBO confirmed that a Jon Snow focussed spin-off is in early development.
Emilia Clarke confirmed the show to the BBC,
“He [Harington] has told me about it. And I know it exists. It’s happening. It’s been created by Kit as far as I can understand, so he’s in it from the ground up. So what you will be watching, hopefully, if it happens, is certified by Kit Harington.”
In case you thought that was merely a slip of the tongue, no. A Song of Ice and Fire author, George R.R. Martin, confirmed the show on his blog. It’s currently being developed under the working title “Snow.” Martin also confirmed that he is involved in a similar capacity that he is involved with all the upcoming spin-offs – producer, writer etc. The author said that Harington visited his home at Santa Fe and worked with him and his team to “hammer” out the show’s story.
So it seems that at the very least the show isn’t some half-baked idea from HBO, but something that seems to have genuine care put into it. As Martin said, “Yes, it was Kit Harington who brought the idea to us. I cannot tell you the names of the writers/showrunners, since that has not been cleared for release yet but Kit brought them in too, his own team, and they are terrific.”
Given that Jon Snow’s story concluded with him riding into exile towards the Haunted Forest with his direwolf Ghost. Likely the show could be about his new life in exile in the very far north of Westeros. It’s possible that other characters could make appearances in the show, but there’s no word as to any confirmation surrounding that.
