I wouldn’t recommend skating in them but Tyga x MSCHF are taking footwear to another level.
The “Wavy Baby” is one of the weirdest looking pieces of footwear that aren’t Croc-based and I’m all here for it. I don’t know whether they would be comfy or not, but they certainly look more interesting than anything that’s come out of the sneaker world in a while, and that at least is something worth talking about.
I’m not the biggest fan of Tyga’s music but this collaboration is making me look a little closer (which is the intent). MSCHF do have a lot of famous friends willing to work with them (Grimes, Lil Nas X etc.) and this just happened to coincide with the release of Tyga’s newest single, “Freaky Deaky”. That’s not a bad thing but maybe it’s indicative of big things to come from Tyga? Or maybe he just has a better fashion sense than he does music?

MSCHF told Highsnobiety that it was really difficult to make this shoe. Most manufacturers took one look at the “Wavy Baby” and rejected it outright. It looked too weird in the sketches, and no one seemed willing to take the risk. Maybe if it was Adidas or Nike making the shoe it wouldn’t have mattered but alas experimentation this extreme usually only comes from the smaller designers. Thankfully, there were people willing to take the risk.
It might look like a skate shoe but MSCHF’s own disclaimer doesn’t recommend trying them out at the skate park,
“Warning: By placing your foot in this shoe, you agree to waive any claims against MSCHF for any injury, death, or damages arising from having your foot in this shoe.”
Weird disclaimer that I’m not sure is a joke or not.
They do look very similar to Vans skate shoes but are clearly different enough to avoid a lawsuit but that doesn’t mean they won’t try.
Are these just the tip of the iceberg? I hope not, rather I would like to see MSCHF take the world by storm in the coming years. Maybe they will drop the next YEEZY?
