According to The Hollywood Reporter, studios are in the midst of a crazy bidding war for the rights to the project.

No one knows what the plot to this movie even is and it has the studios in a frenzy. Paramount, Sony, Universal, MGM, Netflix, Apple, Amazon, and even Disney are all making offers.

The only things we know about are the people involved. Brad Pitt and Lewis Hamilton are there but in what capacity Hamilton will be involved we still don’t know. It doesn’t seem likely he will be acting in the film, but stranger things have happened.

The director is Joseph Kosinski who’s done films like Tron: Legacy and Oblivion. While those films weren’t amazing, they were certainly competent, especially regarding their special effects. His film Only the Brave was lauded upon release and holds an 87% critic approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Kosinski is also working on the upcoming Top Gun sequel, Top Gun: Maverick.

Pitt and Kosinski have been trying to make a racing movie for quite some time. In 2013, Pitt was attached to a project with Kosinski that eventually morphed into the fantastic Ford v Ferrari with a completely different director and cast.

The screenwriter is Ehren Kruger who wrote hits like The Ring and Scream 3. But he also wrote on three of the Transformers films (no, not the first one) and the poorly received Ghost in the Shell remake and Dumbo remake. He is also the writer for the upcoming Top Gun: Maverick. Seems the new Top Gun set was a great place for networking.

As far as Hamilton’s role in the film is concerned, he did try to get into Top Gun: Maverick as he revealed in 2019, “I was trying to get in Top Gun because I’m a massive fan… I had an opportunity to do it and I couldn’t do it. I didn’t have time to do any filming.”

That sounds about right, and I can’t imagine his calendar has much free time going forward either since he still hasn’t retired from Formula 1.
