Paramount Pictures show off their new trailer for the upcoming fifth instalment in the Scream franchise.

Scream is back and so is the original cast (well, the members that haven’t been killed yet) so we get to see Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, and David Arquette in their iconic roles. New cast members include Jenna Ortega, Jack Quaid, and Melissa Barrera.

The new film will be directed by Matthew Bettinilli-Olpin and Tyler Gillet who were responsible for Ready or Not. Wes Craven died in 2015 so this will be first Scream film that isn’t directed by the horror maestro. Luckily for us viewers, the original screenwriter, Kevin Williamson, is an executive producer on the film so it will hopefully still feel like a Scream film while doing something different.

The trailer gives off a vibe similar to the Halloween remake that brought back Jamie Lee Curtis in 2018. That movie was met with fairly positive reviews from critics and audiences but some called it a little derivative as it didn’t really offer anything new for a Halloween film.

The new trailer for Scream does look a little generic for a slasher film and the only real exciting thing is the returning cast. I’m optimistic but I get the vibe that it will be a familiar feeling movie. Maybe they’ll have some interesting ideas with the killer using new tech to scare and harass their victims. That could be fun, and we do see some of that in the trailer. Hopefully it doesn’t fumble the ball and create another film like Unfriended (2014).

The movie is set to be released on January 14, 2022.

In other entertainment news, HBO dropped a trailer for the Game of Thrones spin-off, House of the Dragon.
