It’s been quite some time now since season eight of Game of Thrones left a bad taste in many people’s mouths but hopefully now with this new prequel series, the franchise can redeem itself.
House of the Dragon will tell the story of the Targaryen’s invasion of Westeros, 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones. None of your favourite characters will likely return but that’s probably for the best as there is a whole world to explore.
The series might have a completely new cast including Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy, and Olivia Cook, but returning to a producer role is the series author, George R.R. Martin.
House of the Dragon is based on Martin’s novel Fire & Blood and this should be good news for viewers as the best seasons of Game of Thrones had Martin as a producer and now he is returning to that role. He left the producer role on the original series after season four which many would argue was the last ‘perfect’ season.
Regardless, it’s exciting to see more Game of Thrones content because despite staggering at the end, the show overall was one of the best TV has ever had to offer.
The show should be released on HBO Max (likely, Binge for Australians) sometime in early 2022.
In other entertainment news, Venom: Let There Be Carnage just had a killer opening weekend.
