Breitling has dropped three colourful chronographs inspired by 1960s style muscle cars.
The three watches are inspired by three different cars, the Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Corvette, and the Shelby Cobra. It makes sense too because Breitling has a history in car manufacturing as their timepieces were favourites amongst manufacturers who put Breitling’s in their dash clocks and chronographs. Now they’re putting that history into the spotlight with this new Breitling Top Time Classic Cars Capsule Collection.
Whilst the cars are the main inspiration, they are not the only one. To match the period of the 1960s, Breitling are also looking towards their own past chronographs from the same era, meaning that the dials are highly legible and easy to see from the steering wheel.
The three colours are taken from each of the muscle cars they take their inspiration from. The green dial takes its colour from the Ford Mustang, the red and black for the Corvette, and the blue for the Cobra.
The Breitling Top Time Shelby Cobra is the smallest of the three whose stainless-steel case measures at 40mm. This reference features a two-register chronograph, rather than the three found on its two siblings. It has 100m water resistance and Breitling Calibre 41 that has a 41-hour power reserve and a chronograph function that can measure within ¼ of a second.
The Breitling Top Time Ford Mustang is slighter larger than the Cobra coming in a 42mm. it features three black chronograph dials that provide a great contrast to the green dial. It has a Calibre 25 that offers a 42-hour power reserve.
The Breitling Top Time Chevrolet Corvette features all the same specifications as the Mustang variant but this time the dial is an indulgent red and black.
All three watches are absolutely stunning, and it comes down to personal preference because you sacrifice nothing no matter which you choose. The Cobra variant might have one less chronograph but it’s also smaller, so it really depends on what you want. These are brilliant watches from Breitling and one of our favourite releases of the year so far.
These watches are available on Breitling’s website and are priced at $5,500 USD ($7,400 AUD).
