Rugby league legend, Peter Sterling, has reportedly been gagged by Channel Nine to say anything publicly over his decision to leave the network at the end of 2021 season.
On Sunday, Sterling told his management and colleagues of his intention to step away from television at the end of the season. This news go out before a formal statement could be made from either Sterling or Channel Nine.
It has been made clear that Sterling made this decision of his own volition and was not pushed out forcibly by the network.
Yahoo reported that Channel Nine is not at all pleased of Sterling’s departure and the fact that the news got out before a formal announcement could be made.
What has been reported as the reason for his departure is a wish to make way for a younger crew to take over. These reports also suggest that Sterling is just leaving TV and not radio, so Sterling will still appear on Triple M.
Channel Nine now faces an issue for their new line-up as many of the usual suspects will be leaving. The future of Ray Warren is uncertain, Wally Lewis’ contract is not likely to be renewed, and Erin Molan is off contract at the end of the year.
Channel Nine has yet to comment.
