TAG Heuer have integrated Mario into their Connected interactive timepiece so that you can get fit with Mario.

Pop culture has certainly made its presence felt in the world of luxury watchmaking. Just recently we had the Audemars Piguet Black Panther watch and now TAG Heuer have given us a Mario variant on their Connected smartwatch.

TAG Heuer have really cornered the market with their luxury smartwatches, none of their competitors have a solid smartwatch in their line-up choosing instead to focus on tradition but not TAG.

This new Mario variant doesn’t change too much from the Connected’s original design. The main differences arises in the interface. It comes pre-installed with various Mario themed faces that are activity focused, a bit like the fitness faces you can find on Apple Watches.

Four of the smart watches signature dials have been redesigned. The “Timekeeping” face puts on a pixel art finish similar to Mario’s days in the 1980s, two iterations of the “Heuer 2” face appear with blue and red, and the “Orbital” face rids itself of its neutral network and replaces it with Mario power items.

A statement from TAG Heuer reads,

“With its watch dial, which becomes livelier and more animated the more the wearer is active, this edition of the TAG Heuer Connected changes as its user makes progress, for a fun and motivating way of keeping active throughout the day.”

What this actually means is that Mario celebrates your fitness progress with his signature power-ups from the games. You can see these on the bezel: a Super Mushroom lights up at the 3 o’clock position, the green pipe appears at 6 o’clock, and at 9 o’clock the Super Star appears. Once you reach your daily fitness goal, Mario climbs up his Goal Pole in celebration, much like how he finishes a level in one of his games.

You also get two straps imprinted with the Super Mario logo. One is black leather on red rubber and the other is just plain red perforated rubber for a sportier look.

TAG Heuer CEO, Frédéric Arnault, said of the collaboration, “What better than the TAG Heuer Connected to give life to this iconic character and encourage users to team up with Mario to get out there and be more active?”

With the average price of the Connected Smartwatch being between $3,000 – $4,000 AUD, this Mario edition is not going to come cheap either. The run will be limited to 2,000 pieces and is set to release on July 15. Check out the watch here.
