The 21-year-old driver was mugged and his very expensive Richard Mille watch was stolen from him by two men.
The thieves had cornered Norris when he returned to his McLaren GT in one of Wembley’s car parks. One man had grabbed Norris while the other took the watch from his wrist.
He is okay according to both Lando and his team at McLaren. The McLaren team issued a statement,
“Thankfully, Lando was unharmed but he is understandably shaken. The team is supporting Lando and we are sure that racing fans will join us in wishing him all the best for the British Grand Prix this weekend.”
Lando reiterated this on his Instagram story,
“Hi world, Thanks for all the messages everyone. Really means a lot to see so many messages of kindness and love from you all. Thought I’d let you know that I’m doing well and trying to make sure I’m ready and in the right zone for this weekend to perform at my best. Love you all and can’t wait to see so many of you back at the track this weekend.”
Many press reports have stated that the watches value was around $55,000 USD but this is incredibly unlikely. He was seen wearing a custom, electric blue RM 67-02. These watches cost around $120,500 USD when new but has since probably appreciated in value.
Given that this is a custom piece it may have only had a limited run in the single digits, which means these thieves are going to have an incredibly hard time selling it without it being traced. Not the brightest bunch it seems. We here are just thankful that Lando is okay.
