Dwayne Johnson is easily one of the most popular men in the world. He’s been in the public eye for at least two decades now and he certainly has had his fair share of iconic moments. To celebrate his 48th birthday, let’s take a look at some of these iconic moments, be they funny, embarrassing, or badass.

That Bum-Bag Photo

The Rock tweeted a throwback photo of himself from the 90s that featured him in his best fit. Everything from the turtleneck, to the chain, to his brown bum-bag just absolutely screams, in the Rock’s own words, buff lesbian. The haircut was an interesting choice too.

Setting The Attendance Record At Wrestlemania 32

In 2016, the Rock went back to wrestling for a bit and helped to set the all-time record for attendance at a Wrestlemania event. Not too surprising given the man’s enormous popularity but on top of this he also achieved the quickest win in Wrestlemania history as he defeated his opponent in six seconds. I guess it kinda doesn’t mean anything since it’s all scripted but, hey, it happened. The six second fight is a contentious topic amongst wrestling fans as many asked why they even bothered. I think the attendance will answer that question. A mix of achievement and disappointment all in one night. Truly iconic.

The Mummy Returns

Now this isn’t the Rock’s fault at all but that doesn’t make it any less funny. From the award-winning effects studio that gave us Star Wars and Jurassic Park, comes their most laughable effort, the Scorpion King. I don’t even think I need to explain why this looks bad but the fact that it’s the Rock just adds to it. It’s meme gold and I enjoy it thoroughly. A personal highlight is when the CG Rock raises an eyebrow at the camera.

His Wrestling Debut

I don’t know how many people know about this, but the Rock’s wrestling debut was certainly not a cool one. It was decidedly uncool. He was called Rocky Mavia in his debut at Survivor Series 1996. He had a goofy Polynesian inspired get-up and an even goofier haircut. The arena filled with boos and chants like “Die Rocky Die.” Interesting to look back at your roots and the Rock’s should be remembered as a reminder to never give up.

That Time He Had To Go To Work

The Fast & Furious films have always been silly and over-the-top but for me, the moment that stands above all the rest as the silliest and yet most hilariously badass, is when the Rock breaks out of his own cast to go fight Jason Statham. *mwah* chef’s kiss.

Fighting Vin Diesel

Since we’re on the topic of the Fast franchise. Before it became about big action stars fighting each other, Fast Five gave us the fight that started it all between The Rock and Vin Diesel (I’m using their real names because who cares? Do you see Dom and Hobbs fighting or the Rock and Vin Diesel?). They trade blows, throw each other into furniture, cars, windows, and eventually through walls. It’s over-the-top and definitely one of the most memorable fights in the whole series.

The Other Guys

This movie is incredibly underrated. It’s quite funny, even if it begins to lag in the second half. But the first third of this movie. Far out. It’s pretty funny. Samuel L. Jackson and The Rock are a pair of hot-shot cops who are known for cool one-liners and their ability to cause millions of dollars’ worth of property damage. The way that they bow out of the movie (I won’t spoil it) is comedy gold. The Rock really gets to up the charm on this one too.

This was a fantastic role for Johnson. It just makes sense, doesn’t it? The character is from Polynesian legend. The Rock is Polynesian. I guess that’s it. But we found out that the Rock can sing at least a little bit. It’s a fun movie and one worth seeing. It also happens to be the Rock’s highest rated movie on Rotten Tomatoes.
