Patek Philippe have just unveiled four new Nautilus models at Watches and Wonders Geneva 2021. The surprise launch has given wearers and collectors a feast for the eyes.

The watch inspired by a ship’s porthole is back in a big way. The Nautilus flagship model that launched in 2006 during its 30th anniversary has been a pillar of Patek Philippe’s selection. But with the announcement that the iconic stainless steel Patek Philippe Ref. 5711/1A will soon be discontinued, a new model with an olive-green dial is here to take its place.

Green has been something of a trend with this year’s announcements with Breitling showcasing a pistachio green watch as well. For Patek Philippe, this colour has never been available before in the Nautilus collection. An elegant shade of green accentuated by a sunburst finish that should work well with light reflecting from the steel case surrounding the dial. This design choice should also ensure legibility at any time of day but if it doesn’t, luminescent hands and hour markers in white gold should do the trick. It’s compact, it’s sporty, it’s the perfect watch for everyday wear.

So big deal. It’s green. Well, if that doesn’t impress you then maybe the Ref. 5711/1300A-001 Nautilus will. Not many watchmakers are bold enough to combine cold steel with baguette-cut diamonds. Normally, you put the diamonds with some other precious metal because, you know, two precious things tend to go well together. But no, Patek Phillipe put 32 flawless Top Wesselton baguette diamonds around the octagonal bezel. This would look awkward if the diamonds were cut in a typically rectangular shape but here, they are a slightly trapezoidal shape to match the already irregularly shaped bezel. And yes, this one is also green.

But if green really doesn’t do it for you, the Ref. 5990/1R-001 has a new look with a blue sunburst dial surrounded by a rose gold case. The Nautilus Travel Time Chronograph combines three complications – a flyback chronograph, a Travel Time function (for two time zones), and an analog date. This model has never been available before in rose gold and it looks absolutely royal when paired with the blue dial.

Patek Philippe haven’t forgotten about the ladies either. The new Ref. 7118/1450-001 is a revisitation of the various ladies Nautilus watches set with diamonds but now they’ve put diamonds everywhere. I mean, everywhere. This rose-gold watch has 2553 flawless Top Wesselton diamonds in a snow-setting on the case, the bezel, and the bracelet. The dial also features diamonds in individual rows. The case is somewhat larger in comparison as well with a diameter of 35.2mm as opposed to 33.6mm of previous models. It’s a beautiful watch for beautiful women.
