With Rolex releasing new collections across four models, it can be overwhelming at a glance; but the new aubergine 31mm Oyster Perpetual Datejust is undoubtedly one of the highlights of Rolex’s releases of 2020.

As the only diamond-accented model in the 2020 collection, the aubergine Datejust features a bezel with 46 handsets, brilliant-cut diamonds, a stunning sunray finished dial achieved through a silver-plating base layer, and a white Rolesor (Oystersteel and 18k white gold) case and Oyster bracelet.

Powered by the calibre 2236, the 31mm Datejust holds a power reserve of approximately 55 hours. Notably, the calibre 2236 is fitted with a Syloxi hairspring in silicon and a paramagnetic nickel-phosphorus escape wheel, which makes them insensitive to magnetic fields and gives wearers confidence in the timepiece’s accuracy. Shock resistance is provided by the Rolex-designed and patented Paraflex shock absorbers, onto which the oscillator is fitted.

The Datejust debuted in 1945 (ref. 4467), and it was the first automatic watch with a date. As the first watch to ever be offered with a Jubilee bracelet, the watch’s design has endured the test of time, as even now, not an awful lot has changed about the Datejust’s timeless design. With a middle case crafted from a solid block of Oystersteel, screw-down case-back, and screw-down crown, the Rolex Twinlock double waterproof system provides water-resistance of 100 metres.

Colour options of the 2020 collection include the aubergine dial and white lacquer dial, both fitted with Roman numerals, and Oyster bracelets in Oystersteel; mint green sunray finish dial and dark grey sunray finish dial, both fitted with index hour markers and Jubilee bracelets.

The Oyster bracelets are fitted with a folding Oysterclasp and the Easylink comfort extension link, which enables the wearer to adjust the length of the bracelet by 5mm when needed.

The Jubilee bracelets are fitted with a concealed folding clasp, which creates the visual of a continuous bracelet without the interruption of a clasp, apart from a crown logo at the connecting point.

Pricing wise, the diamond-set Aubergine Datejustis available at A$22,600, while the white Datejust is available at A$10,950; the green and the dark grey Datejustswith Jubilee bracelets are available at A11,250 each.
